WHO we are: Unplug KU is a new student organization dedicated to energy conservation on campus through student volunteering, energy education, and renewable campus energy advocacy. Unplug collaborates with students, staff, and faculty to spread awareness for energy conservation and also provides a central information source for anyone interested in energy and sustainability.
WHAT we do: Unplug KU hosts weekly campus shutdowns. During these shutdowns we have UnplugKU members go through campus buildings to turn off lights and common use electronics to prevent unnecessary energy use during the weekends. This is a volunteer based program so any and all are welcome! We will fully equip you with all the need items for shutting down your building.
WHEN we meet: Unplug will meet every Friday at 5:30pm for Friday Shutdowns.
WHERE we are: We meet on Wescoe Beach. From there you will be given a volunteer packet and assigned a building for shutdown.
WHY we are: The National Renewable Energy Laboratory states that at an estimated cost of $38 billion a year, lighting represents the largest source of electricity consumption in U.S. commercial buildings.
